Guiding Children Successfully Educational Guides
Program 6. Raising Children to be Good People

Guiding Children Successfully

How can we help children notice the needs of others while treating them kindly?

As children mature, how can we help them discover their gifts?

What should we do differently to help our children develop into humans who care, who relate well to others?

1. Strong loving relationships are the foundation.

Do you ever get so annoyed with one individual, that you lose sight of the good they do? How can you prevent this?

If we invest, even a little, in our children, we will gain a lot.

What are some ways you invest in your children? Do you appreciate the good things they are already doing? Is there any way you want to improve?

2. Teaching promotes growth

Consequences should not be used as punishment.

What are some ways you can teach your children without punishing them?

Children learn by example.

Think about the examples you are setting for your children. What is already good?

Is there anything you wish to do differently?

What are ways you invite discussion and learning with your children?

3. Making a difference makes a difference

How might you be able to teach a child that helping can be healing to others? Do you have favorite stories or examples to share?

What are some ways you can cultivate kindness into your child’s life?

What situations do you find yourself negotiating in?

In what ways do you find yourself being considerate with your children? In what ways would you like to do better?
