Audio/Video Script:

In the Park

Dr. Wally: "Hey! How are you?"

Mother: "Well, I’m fine. How are you?"

Dr. Wally: "I’m healthy!"

Mother: "Well good!"

Dr. Wally: "Josh, how are you doing?"

Josh: "I’m going good."

Dr. Wally: "You look healthy. Joseph, you look stealthy-healthy. Would you say you’re healthy?"

Mother: "Yeah, I think he is. Joshua, would you take him to the swing set please?"

Dr. Wally: "So you’re out exercising?"

Mother: "We are exercising as a family."

Dr. Wally: "Ah, that’s great! I bet it makes you feel good, doesn’t it?"

Mother: "You know, it really does."

Dr. Wally: "Is that a regular habit for your family to get out and do things outside?"

Mother: "Yes, we try to make it a habit- to be able to get out, especially after meals or just anytime. It gets the energy out, especially with three young boys! You need that!"

Dr. Wally: "Oh boy! I bet! In fact, I bet once in a while you have to send them outside to do a little running."

Mother: "Sure! Of course."

Dr. Wally: "And does each member of the family have their own regimen of what they love to do physically- what kind of exercise they enjoy?"

Mother: "I like to walk, especially with other people. My husband likes to run or likes to cycle. Joshua loves to skateboard. Jonathan likes to scooter. So we each have our own different things that we each enjoy doing more."

Dr. Wally: "So we each find our own way, don’t we?"

Mother: "That’s right."

Dr. Wally: "In fact, if it’s to be successful we probably need to find something we enjoy doing."

Mother: "Exactly. I couldn’t imagine doing something and not enjoying it."

Dr. Wally: "Yes. So it doesn’t feel like punishment."

Mother: "No, no. And getting out and walking, I enjoy more, than opposed to running because I can see things closer and spend a little bit more time…"

Dr. Wally: "Enjoying the surroundings."

Mother: "Yes, exactly."

Dr. Wally: "That’s great. Now it seems to me that there’s one other thing that’s really important. Tell me what you think. It seems like if we take time to do things that we love do: our hobbies, our interests, then that’s good for us too. What do you think?"

Mother: "I think you’re exactly right. I love to get out and meet people and visit whereas someone else might like to spend time alone. That recharges them."

Dr. Wally: "So it’s all very different."

Mother: "Exactly- because we’re all so different."

Dr. Wally: "Yes. And if we’re all doing something that we love to do, it’s going to help us to be healthy, more balanced, deal with our stress."

Mother: "Oh sure. I think you’re exactly right."

Dr. Wally: " Can you think of anything else you do to account for your well-being?

Mother: "Prayer. I think prayer is something I try to do everyday."

Dr. Wally: "Taking time for that peacefulness, reflection or meditation."

Mother: "That’s right."

Dr. Wally: "Wow. That’s a great combination. And so it sounds like if you do all these things, if you’re healthier and balanced and you’ve dealt with stress, I bet you’re going to be better in all areas of your life. Don’t you?"

Mother: "You know, I think so."

Dr. Wally: "It just makes sense."

Mother: "Um-hum."

Dr. Wally: "It’s sure good to talk with you."

Mother: "It was good to talk with you too."

Dr. Wally: "Have fun with the boys!"

Mother: "Thank you! Bye-bye!"

Dr. Wally: "See you!"
