Dr. LaVona Traywick
Assistant Professor - Gerontology

[Announcer] Welcome to Thoughts on Aging with Dr. LaVona Traywick, Assistant Professor of Gerontology with the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service.

[Dr. LaVona Traywick]  Saint Patrick's Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick's Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide.

This  St. Patrick's Day, let's have fun and eat green eggs and ham for breakfast, but let's also remember why the holiday was even started.  Dr. Wally Goddard states “When we focus primarily on ourselves, our view of the world is narrow and limited. As we turn more energy and attention to helping others, the meaning and satisfaction of our own lives expand. There are countless places and ways we can serve others.”

So this St. Patrick 's Day, focus on the renewal.  What will you do to make the world a better place?

[Announcer] Thank you for listening to Thoughts on Aging with Dr. LaVona Traywick. To learn more about this and other topics, contact your local county Cooperative Extension Service office.
