[Announcer] Welcome to Thoughts on Aging with Dr. LaVona Traywick,
Assistant Professor of Gerontology with the University of Arkansas Division of
Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service.
[Dr. LaVona Traywick] I am in the process of recovering from a very bad cold with
a severe sore throat. Since it hurt to talk, I took the time to think about
what I wanted to say before I spoke. Although I know it is important to think
before you speak, to curb my words, to guard my mouth, I am more known for
speaking my mind.
What I discovered this past week, with it being painful to
speak, is that most people don’t really take time to listen. We are simply
waiting for our time to talk.
If we take the time to really listen to what the
other person is telling us, then take the time to formulate our words, much of
what we say could really go unsaid.
I am hoping to take my lessons learned while being sick and
apply them even as I continue to get better: Listen to what is being said and
think before I speak. Thanks for listening.
