[Camme Fell standing in front of a barn] In AgrAbility one of the key
components of the farm assessment is ensuring safety and preventing injuries. [Arkansas AgrAbility]
One of the best ways to do this is using the right tools for the job.
[Video shows Camme putting on work gloves.] Two of the most common farm
injuries are to the hands and the lower back. Something as simple as wearing
gloves can be helpful in preventing injuries to the hand.
[Video shows a woman standing on a step stool with a hay hook to get a bale
of hay.] To prevent lower back injuries you can use a stool for climbing and
reaching things in the barn. [Video shows a woman using two hay hooks to place a
bale of hay in a utility cart cart.] You can use hay hooks to help you
carry hay, to displace the weight so it is not pulling on your lower back. And
you can use a wagon to help you carry it where it needs to go. [Video shows a
woman pulling the bale of hay with the utility cart.]
So remember, when you are getting ready to do your chores, make sure you have
the right tools for the job. [Video shows a woman pulling with hay hooks,
gloves, and a utility cart.]
