Journey to Wellness - Graphic of a triangle with a runner, and apple, carrot and grain.Journey to Wellness

Inactivity, unhealthy weight and tobacco use are the major contributors to the morbidity and mortality of Arkansans. More than 25% of Arkansans are obese. The same percentage of Arkansans continues to smoke cigarettes, while another 40% admit to inadequate physical exercise.

Journey to Wellness is a unique voluntary program for benefits-eligible employees of the Cooperative Extension Service. The program is designed to help individuals from all walks of life and geographical areas adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles. As life itself is a journey of sorts, so is the journey in pursuit of wellness, with delays, detours, wrong turns, starts and stops. The program is designed to provide timely directions for a safe and healthy journey.

Journey to Wellness aims to provide a fun, sustainable “map” that individuals can follow to enhance their quality of life by achieving and maintaining a healthy weight, practicing a safe and sustainable exercise regime and avoiding the use of tobacco products.

This will be an annual program that allows participants to select healthy activities that increase exercise and achieve and maintain healthy weight and tobacco abstinence. Activities are designed to allow maximum flexibility for today's busy schedules.
